At the MMA’s Annual Business Meeting on Jan. 12, MMA Executive Director Geoffrey Beckwith introduced a new, innovative electronic advocacy system for MMA members.

The new system will be used to alert members about key legislation at the State House that needs immediate attention from local officials.

The system will allow local leaders to quickly and easily send, by e-mail, letters to their legislators that can be customized to address how the pending legislation will affect their communities.

The system will give members the history of the legislation, previous testimony on the legislation, and fact sheets to make sure members are well-informed on the issues.

Members will also be provided with the phone numbers of legislators, so they can follow-up their e-mails with a phone call. Municipal officials will be able to print a personalized letter on their official letterhead as well.

Finally, members will be able to forward the action center e-mail to other individuals to take action.

“This system incorporates the latest cutting-edge technology to help our members advocate strongly for our communities throughout the state,” Beckwith said. “In these difficult times, we need to utilize all the tools available to us to advocate for our cities and towns.

“Along with our legislative breakfast series, we are making our case directly to our state leaders.”
