Q: What parts of the new Ethics Reform Act affect municipal officials and employees?

A:
The Ethics Reform Act (Chapter 28 of the Acts of 2009) makes several changes to the state’s conflict-of-interest, lobbying, campaign finance and open meeting laws. Local officials are subject to these laws and must be aware of the changes and new requirements. The MMA has prepared a summary of the provisions of the new law that affect municipal government; the summary can be found on the MMA Web site (www.mma.org) in the Municipal Government area of the Resource Library, under Ethics.
